The Travel Issue of Genre with my piece on Manchester just hit the stands. While I was there a met a wonderful bartender at Harvey Nichols called Matt Fairhurst. I spent my last afternoon there propped up at his bar, as he poured one original
concoction after another-extremely talented fellow. I can't seem to quite match the recipes I wrote down with the photos I took--one of the perils of writing about spirits is that you sometimes imbibe more than you write-add in shooting photographs to the tasks at hand, and you're lucky if you can make any sense of your notes the next day. I do have his recipe for his riff on the Manahattan, dubbed The Manchester, over at my fledgling cocktail blog, Embury.
More photos of vaguely but pleasantly recalled drinks in the second part of the post, and complete recipes (retrieved via e-mail) over at Embury.
