N95 isn't at its best in low light situations, although it did alright with this party on a roof under the Brooklyn Bridge.
I thought I was being very cool and arty with this one; it's a stack of sheets of glass inside a big empty space off that rooftop. Pretty obscure-that low light thing is a big consideration with the N95. Lorenzo got a better picture of me taking shooting this than the photo itself:
And this one of me getting our location on the GPS function:
But in twilight, diffuse light and daylight it's right on the money.
The Hudson, near the helipads.
Ollie at his photo session with Lorenzo.
Terribly chic.
The N95 has super sweet video as well; here's something I shot at the Yoko Devereaux Memorial Day BBQ.
A sherry tasting at the gorgeous offices of PR firm the Thomas Collective. The N95 started to feel like it did best in Magic Hour situations--diffused light just after the sun sets but before night falls.
Although it likes fluorescent light, like here at the Salvation Army in Ft. Greene. The video does well with artificial light too, as in this bit from a Chinese restaurant in Key West with Tungsten and fluorescent. Erin and I were having dinner when this crazy music started playing and the staff came out with a cake and singing Happy Birthday to a little girl who was, as her white parents put it, "born in China", a wonderful way to describe adoption. I love when her little brother crawls under the table here.
Overcast days are great for video, like when I came across this Bike Rally riding down 7th Avenue. Note how quiet it is until the police escort brings up the rear.
Not normally a fan of building-size advertisements but this one for Bright Eyes' recent New York shows was undeniably cool.
New Dolce store on the Upper East side, under construction. Rather raunchy to put the door over the crotch, I thought.
My boys Kyle and Junior. I have no idea where this was.
Junior later that night at a party in deepest darkest Brooklyn, on somebody's bed.
Simon and Kyle backstage at Apartment 138.
The garden at Apartment 138 in Cobble Hill under construction; it's all finished and quite a sexy dining spot now. That piece of wood Simon's holding is the frame for the wraparound banquette.
One of the best sights in the world is a hospital bed that's just been vacated by a friend who's on the mend.
It's official: rose champagne is still in.
D.J. King Samo.
And finally, a clip as me and D. rode in a cab across the Williamsburg bridge on a rainy evening. The mic on the N95 is very sensitive, great for a quiet room but picks up all the noise and wind. Kinda works here, though.
