So here's Tommy Ford big pimping after yet another fabulous show. GQ Style posts this photo to Instagram with the caption "Tom Ford didn't take a bow--he swaggered down the runway, highball in hand." Fair assessment, except for that not being a highball in his hand, but clearly what was meant to look like a whiskey on the rocks. Highballs must be in a highball glass. I am not the one who caught that; Aaron Godlfarb pointed it out to me in one of our bursts of mprimarily shady IG messaging and commentary. I was actually saying that despite myself I was impressed by Ford's swagger. Once the highball snafu was pointed out to me I joined the ranks of the idiot commentosphere and posted the "correction" to IG. Why I bothered, I don't know. And why it bothers me so much--that I do know. A gentleman's magazine should know the difference between a highball, a lowball, a whiskey on the rocks--hell, all of it. And if magazines are gradually evolving into simply photos with captions, then could we please get the captions right.
Another fun fact came to light through another comment to the photo--Ford apparently doesn't even drink. So this was just a prop. Which is a bit ridiculous, but fashion is theater, so if a whisky on the rocks is the hottest accessory for the Ford lifestyle, then why not represent.
