Snapped this wine list (click to enlarge) at a recent show featuring photos and artifacts from Max's Kansas City at the Steven Kasher Gallery in New York. Of course there's always the surreal aspect of seeing prices circa 1969: a Chateauneuf du Pape for $6.95 seems so low, even with inflation. But one wonders how much French wine Debbie Harry, David Bowie and Lou Reed were drinking. What was the drink of choice amongst this rock and roll Warholian crowd? At a recent talk at The New Traditionalists Bob Colacello said the staff was always drinking Negronis at Interview Magazine, something that seems as though it would go well with all the speed that was about. Was the Max's crowd chugging $7.35 bottles of Pouilly Fousse to take the edge of their Benzedrine high?
