A weekly roundup of cocktail tidbits from around the world, this time with a preponderance of Brits.
Embury's Shoreditch envoy Will Foster of Casita fame (and The Verdita) is interviewed in the London edition of Le Cool, the Euro urban insider's guide.
In the "More Bars, More Places" category Matt Fairhurst, formerly of the bar at Harvey Nick's in Manchester (see posts here) saw that Nottingham was in dire need of a good Tiki bar and has generously opened one: Bad Juju Tiki Bar. Having had Fairhurst's Zombie (absolute, firm limit: two) with six rums, we reckon Nottingham is in for it. Lucky.
And on the altruism front, Hawksmoor's Pete Jeary and his family are trekking across the Sinai Desert in Egypt to raise funds Marie Curie Hospice in Penarth, where Pete's grandmother received exceptional care. If you know Jeary (at top of this post), the thought of him trekking across the desert for anything but the last remaining drink in the world is already impressive and merits support. All information here.
Speaking of Hawskmoor, Elitist Review stopped in for their Zombie and raves about it. They limit guests to one per. Impressive.
Drinking For A Change, a site that drinks towards equal rights for LGBT citizens (here's an explanation of how they do it) has a good round up of Oscar-worthy drinks. You'll need something to get through the slog of designer gowns and industry-wide self-congratulation and circle jerkage. Probably a lot of somethings. Meanwhile, Jeffrey Morgenthaler eviscerates Sandra Lee's Oscar-themed instant zuke-inducing cocktail ideas here.
Some clever fellows have discovered that drinking oxygen-infused booze leads to fewer hangovers. We're not certain that's a good idea--what fun are the dizzying highs without the sickening lows?
And finally, from some of the extra bits from Ted Danson that didn't make it into the final cut of Adam Sach's interview with him for GQ, this nugget: "I'm a happy guy. I have some sadness but sadness ain’t bad. Sadness can be sweet. Sadness has something to do with being real." See the bit about "sickening lows" above. Sachs will be joining Embury on March 22nd as a judge for our "Fantastic Mr. Fox" contest at Louis 649, and we couldn't be more delighted. Always worth revisiting Sachs' piece on his night out with Jim Meehan (here) for guidance on how to maintain while doing some serious, extended drinking.
