(PART TWO--PART ONE HERE) The Hendrick's Croquet Tournament was fueled in part by some smashing summer drinks from Jim Ryan. After The Tipsy Parson the Rocket Ship was my favorite--Jim said as he conceived it he was imagining a pink salt for the rim, and then discovered such a thing actually existed: Murray River Pink Flake Salt from Australia. Jim explains: "I wanted to have a very light style of salt to bring the drink together. I had to bring the sweetness of Strawberries and Honey (amazing bed fellows) and the light spice of the arugula and allow them room to play around without either becoming dominant. The salt is slightly pink and very fluffy. Almost like snow flakes."
ROCKET SHIP
1 1/2 oz. Hendrick's Gin
1 oz. Yellow Chartreuse
1/2 oz Lemon Juice
1/2 oz. honey
3 medium strawberries
Small fistful of baby arugula
Murray River Pink Flake Salt (for rim)
Blend strawberries, lemon juice, honey, and arugula. Add Hendrick's and Chartreuse into the mix; pour the mix into a mixing glass. Ice, shake and fine strain into a salt rimmed double rocks glass. Garnish with a strawberry.
Team Flatiron, who came very very close to winning--both had to work that night and were't drinking, which of course gave them a competitive edge. Perfect period costumes. In the background: Brooklyn Heights just across East River.
More after the jump.
The winners: Team Lovee Long Time from Macao Trading Company.
Ivan Radulovic and Rizo Popovic demonstrating odd but clearly effective form.

The End Of The Party...
... But Not Quite Yet! There followed a ride on a yellow school bus from Wall Street to Chelsea, where drinks continued in the downstairs lounge at Flatiron. A bottle of Chartreuse was passed around the bus, and I'm fairly certain every single passenger took a swig.
By the time the bus reached the Flatiron Lounge the party vibe had slipped into high gear--as you can see from the looks of the people across the street we must have been quite a sight. Great fun.
